Waterproofing does not mean that you can take it with you on dives. Learn all about mobile waterproofing and waterproof phone cases – θήκες κινητών. Which models withstand more or less water and which not at all?

One of the first things you learn when you pick up your first cell phone is that it is not waterproof. Although for most of us, the first cell phone was 20 years ago, a few things have changed since then. Many manufacturers may make mobile phones with the “water-resistant” or “waterproof” label, but these are limited to top models and even in them there are fine print.

Which phones are waterproof and which ones aren’t?

The IP indicator

Let’s start with the latest iPhones, the 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max. These have an IP68 rating, which means they can withstand a depth of up to 4 meters for 30 minutes.  You can always buy a phone case from Thikishop.gr to waterproof it for sure!

The previous models, iPhone XS and XS Max also have IP68 but can withstand up to 2 meters depth for 30 minutes. The older iPhones 7, 8 and X have IP67 and can withstand a depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes.

Of course, as with all devices, no one can guarantee that every device that comes out of the production line; there are reports of iPhones that have simply been damaged by a splash, and of others that have withstood much more than it says.

Specification

It will be good to know what these IP67 and IP68 mean. The first numerical digit refers to the resistance to solids such as sand or dust and 6 is the highest rating, which means that all the aforementioned mobile phones are waterproof and free of dust and particles.

The second digit is for liquids. 7 guarantees that any device can be immersed in up to 1 meter of liquid for up to 30 minutes and continue to operate. 8 concerns a depth greater than 1 meter, although the exact depth and time at which it can remain submerged is left to the respective manufacturer.

In each case, they have seized it, despite obstacles we can scarcely imagine. ” Apple itself suggests avoiding activities such as swimming, bathing or using iPhones in the sauna, among other things.

Now if you definitely want a waterproof phone, then the safest solution is to use a waterproof case – there are many companies that make such phone cases, such as those you will find in Thikishop, so there is no reason to risk your (very expensive) mobile phone without reason.

Although we talked about iPhones, the situation is exactly the same for smartphones from other manufacturers. Apart from very specific models, which are made to withstand water and underwater excursions, whatever you read in the brochures, no regular model will be particularly happy underwater.

The waterproofing of mobile phones is done as a last line of defence in accidents and not in order to keep you company in your dives.
